What Is Summerlicious?
Summerlicious is a yearly food festival sponsored by American Express which is held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Runs From July 3 - July 19, 2009. Reservations for Summerlicious 2009 can be made any time after June 18, although American Express Cardmembers can go to the front of the line and book their Summerlicious reservations early starting on June 16 & 17, 2009.

During Summerlicious the Participating Restaurants in Toronto will offer a variety of Prix Fixe 3 course Lunch and Dinner Menus for you to choose from. The prix fixe lunch meals ranges from $15, $20 or $30 while the dinner menu prices range from $25, $35 or $45. Both the lunch and dinner Menu Prices Include Starter, Entrée and Dessert although beverages, taxes or gratuity are not included in these set prices.

Summerlicious was officially started in 2003 with a total of 35 restaurants participating and was based on some other similar events from other cities around the world that were designed to boost restaurant sales during a fairly slow time of year. Winterlicious is the winter version of this annual festival in the Greater Toronto Area and runs during the first two weeks in February each year.

Although Summerlicious is known for promoting the restaurant industry in Toronto and the GTA, it was primarily created as an Effort to Help Toronto Recover From the 2003 SARS Epidemic, which caused a drastic decline in tourism for the area. The popularity of Summerlicious grows by leaps and bounds each year and this year 150 Restaurants will be participating in the Summerlicious 2009 festival.

Each year Summerlicious is run by the Special Events Department of Toronto, which also selects the best restaurants to participate in the festival. There is a high demand to be included in the Summerlicious festival and because of this there are several rules you must follow to be allowed to participate, including Specific Price Standards, Clean Health Inspection Records and Good Reviews From the Toronto Restaurant Review Guide. On top of that no restaurant chain will be allowed to participate in Summerlicious or Winterlicious as it is more used to promote smaller sized restaurants.

Summerlicious works fairly well based on the concept that although meal prices are discounted, the restaurants tend to see three or four times as much business as usual, making for an overall increase in profit for the restaurant, and an added value for the customer. American Express Cardmembers Are Given Priority Treatment for Summerlicious, such as the ability to make reservations first due to the fact that American Express is the official sponsor to Toronto's Summerlicious 2009.
